The Wide World of Tungsten Rings

Many of my friends don't realize it, but there's a huge range of variety that exists for the tungsten carbide ring. There are many choices to make when picking out just what you want, but what it all really comes down to in the end is looks and style. Go for something that calls out to you, something bold and exciting. There's no point in getting a tungsten ring that you're not going to like forever. I mean, the tungsten metal lasts for decades without wear and tear, so you need to really make sure that you want it just the way you see it. Alterations are tricky and nearly impossible. I'd never think that I could tell you what to do or what you should get, since this is a blog and I don't really know your personal tastes. But when choosing a tungsten ring, make sure you take the time to browse around before you settle on one that's perfect for you.

  1. Hi Thomas,

This is great stuff! Where did you get your material sciences degree?

I've been looking at all kinds of tungsten rings and I was wondering why they're so expensive at retail stores as compared to places like Amazon and Overstock. Do you think the stuff on those websites is legit?

  2. Hi Thomas,

It's Morgan again. I think I've answered my own question. From talking to some jewelers and manufacturers it seems the tungsten percentage varies by manufacturer. Cheaper rings as seen on Amazon, Overstock, etc are below %50 percent tungsten. Standard $100-300 rings fall between 50-85 but with some limitations. I say limitation because it sounds like Trent West (Trew Tungsten) has a bunch of patents that kind of restricts how manufacturers can go about producing rings in the 50-85% range.

Let me know if any of this rings (ha, pun) true to you or if I'm completely off the mark.

    Thanks!
